Second Life Sucks
Second Life sucks! This site is a memorial for the murdered Second Life avatar, Dante Portland. Dante Portland existed in Second Life.com from November 28, 2008 through his deactivation on April 3, 2012. During this three years, four months, and one week, I logged on to SecondLife.com as Dante Portland and interacted with other people for many hours almost every day. In the virtual world of Second Life.com, I had a home, I was respected, and I had friends. As an adult on the autism spectrum, all of these things have been challenging for me in real life.
The business that runs Second Life.com is called Linden Lab. They intentionally deactivated my Dante Portland avatar as a result of a conflict I had with a vendor in the virtual world of Second Life. Over the years that I had my Dante Portland avatar, I had invested hundreds of US dollars in clothing, virtual world items, and a virtual world home. The dispute that caused Dante Portland to be deactivated was for $80.95. The years of my time and all of the money that I invested in Dante Portland is now a complete loss.
Worse than having lost the time and the money that I spent on Dante Portland is that I have lost most of the personal connections I had with the people that I knew and met in the virtual world of Second Life. I have difficulty making friends in real life. In the virtual world of Second Life, I was able to make friends and have relationships. Now on this one year anniversary of the death of my avatar Dante Portland, I launch this site in memory of all the people I will never be in contact with again.
For reasons that will cover in more detail on this site, I have learned an important rule:
Never spend money in Second Life.
You can create a free avatar to visit Second Life if you wish, but do not do business with Linden Lab. They have no functioning customer support and Linden Lab is not an honorable company to do business with.
